WILMINGTON, MA — 790 Wilmington voters, representing a 4.9% voting turnout, did their civic duty on Thursday and went to the polls for the State Primary Election.
557 Democrat ballots were pulled, compared to 233 Republican ballots.
The only contested election was on the Democrat ballot for Middlesex Sheriff. Wilmington resident Barry Kelleher defeated Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian among Wilmington voters, 298 votes to 201 votes. Koutoujian , however, would soundly defeat Kelleher throughout the district. With 96% precincts reporting, Koutoujian received 44,826 votes to Kelleher’s 12,599 votes.
Vote Tallies for the Democrats:
- Congressman Seth Moulton — 436 votes
- Governor’s Councilor Eileen Duff — 380 votes
- State Senator — No Candidate
- State Representative Jim Miceli (19th Middlesex District, Precincts 1-2, 4-6) — 455 votes
- State Representative Ken Gordon (21st Middlesex District, Precinct 3) — 50 votes
- Middlesex Sheriff Peter Koutoujian — 201 votes
- Middlesex Sheriff candidate Barry Kelleher — 298 votes
Vote Tallies for the Republicans:
- Congressman — No Candidate
- Governor’s Councilor — No Candidate
- State Senator Bruce Tarr — 221 votes
- State Representative (19th Middlesex District, Precincts 1-2, 4-6) — No Candidate
- State Representative (21st Middlesex District, Precinct 3) Paul Girouard, Jr. — 27 votes
- Middlesex Sheriff candidate Angelo LaCivita — 13 write-in votes
There were no candidates on the United Independent Party ballot or the Green-Rainbow Party. No ballots for those parties were pulled.

On To The General Election…
On Tuesday, November 8, Congressman Seth Moulton, State Senator Bruce Tarr, State Representative Jim Miceli, and Governor’s Councilor Eileen Duff will run unopposed.
Precinct 3 voters will decide between State Rep. incumbent Ken Gordon (D-Bedford) and challenger Paul Girouard, Jr. (R-Burlington).
The Republican write-in candidate for Middlesex Sheriff, Angelo LaCivitia, will announce on Monday if he secured enough write-in votes to be on the ballot against Peter Koutoujian.
