13 Things You Need To Know In Wilmington Today (September 10)

WILMINGTON, MA — Here are 13 things you need to know in Wilmington for Saturday, September 10, 2016.

#1) The Wilmington Sons of Italy and the Wilmington High School Band Parents will be holding our 4th Annual Yard Sale from 8am to 3pm at the Town Common Parking Lot on Middlesex Ave. In addition to a huge yard sale, there will be Antique Cars on display from 10am to 2pm, Music and a BBQ. #2) Boston Dog Company and Bow Wow Wellness (555 Main Street) is holding its Grand Opening Ceremony from noon to 2pm. The event will be catered by Texas Roadhouse. Come meet the company’s staff and veterinarian.  All guests must be escorted by their K9 friend(s). Learn more HERE.

#3) Dandilyons Ice Cream (1331 Main Street, Reading) is holding a “Dessert For A Cause” fundraiser for Wilmington Youth Hockey on Saturday, September 10, from noon to 9:30pm. 15% of all sales will be donated to WYHA. No flyer or voucher is needed. (Wilmington Apple recommends the new strawberry softserve ice cream.)

#4) The Boston Derby Dames, a Boston-based, female-only roller derby league, returns to the Shriners Auditorium (99 Fordham Road) TODAY.  Doors open at 4pm.  The double-header begins at 5pm with the the Nutcrackers vs. Wicked Pissahs, then Harbor Horrors vs. Cosmonaughties.  Tickets include admission to both games, plus entry into the Players’ After Party in the Fez Room at 9pm. #5) Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan, in partnership with Lahey Health and Winchester Hospital, is hosting a free back-to-school safety day, from 10am to 1pm, at the Middlesex DA’s Offices (15 Commonwealth Avenue, Woburn). Visitors will also be able to explore over 40 emergency vehicles from public and private partners across the state including S.W.A.T. Trucks, Military Humvees, Mobile Command Centers, Motorcycles, Fire Trucks and much more. Visitors will be able to visit information booths hosted by the District Attorney’s Office and community partners to receive resources on bullying, cyber-safety, bike safety and more as they prepare for back-to-school.  Learn more HERE.

#6) The Wilmington Memorial Library (175 Middlesex Avenue) is holding TWO programs today — Writing Group Meeting (9:15am-noon) and a Pastel Painting Workshop with Gregory Maichack at 11am.  Learn more HERE.

#7) The Town’s Yardwaste Center, located on Old Main Street, is OPEN from 9am to 4pm.  Today is the final day that the center is open this month.  Learn more HERE.

#8) The WHS Varsity Boys Soccer team hosts Lexington at 2pm at North Intermediate. The WHS Varsity Girls Soccer team travels to Lexington at 2pm at Lincoln Park.

#9) The Friends of the Wilmington Memorial Library’s Book Store Next Door (183 Middlesex Avenue) is open from 10am to 4pm. All books are $2 or less!  Every penny of every sale benefits the Wilmington Memorial Library. Learn more HERE.

#10) The Wilmington Food Pantry (142 Chestnut Street) is open from 10am to noon for food donation drop-offs. Learn which food items the Pantry is most in need of HERE.

#11) GOOD LUCK to Team Lydon, of Wilmington, who participating in the 14th Annual Walk of Hope For ALS today at Lake Quinapowett in Wakefield.  All proceeds benefit the Angel Fund.  Learn how to donate to the team HERE.

#12) The Massachusetts State Police is holding a Sobriety Checkpoint somewhere in Middlesex County tonight (Saturday) into tomorrow morning (Sunday). Learn more HERE.

#13) DETOUR REMINDER — Mass DOT will be conducting repairs on the Route 38 bridge over the MBTA Commuter Rail line (next to the Town Park) through Monday, September 12 at 5am. During the construction, traffic will not be allowed to cross the bridge. Detours will be in place at Lowell Street and Eames Street. Main Street will be closed and the detours will be implemented at 8pm on September 9.
