WILMINGTON, MA — Here are highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for the week of Sunday, July 31, 2016.
Sunday, July 31:
- K9 Ridic underwent training at Camp 40 Acres on Andover Street. (9:25am)
- A caller reported a dog was struck by an unknown vehicle on Boutwell Street. Dog was able to take off from the scene. Police were unable to locate the dog. (9:31am)
- A dislodged manhole cover was reported on Arlene Avenue. Cones were put out and DPW was notified. (10:34am)
A gray 2014 BMW and a brown 2006 Toyota Camry were involved in a crash at Main Street and Mass Avenue. Both vehicles were towed. One individual was transported by the Fire Department with unspecified injuries. (12:21pm) - A caller locked his house keys inside a UHaul truck he had tented. Police helped gain access to the truck after confirming with UHaul. (6:33pm)
- Police spoke with a homeowner who parked his camper in front of a fire hydrant on Somerville Avenue. (7:39pm)
- A caller reported a gray 2008 Nissan Altima with 4-5 juvenile males were operating without headlights and yelling out the windows on Cunningham Street. Police located the vehicle in the McDonald’s parking lot. Situation checked OK. Operator claimed he did not know how to turn on his headlights. (10:15pm)
Monday, August 1:
- Police noticed 2 unattended vehicles in the Town Beach parking lot. Situation checked OK. Parties were fishing off the pier. (1:00am)
- Police noticed an individual at Rotary Park. Situation checked OK. He was playing a game on his phone. (3:16am)
- A Pouliot Place caller reported his trash barrel was missing. (10:07am)
- Police asked juvenile bicyclists without helmets to leave the skate park and return with helmets. (1:44pm)
- Animal Control Officer responded to a seagull not being able to fly at Biggar Avenue and Salem Street. Officer contacted the Animal Rescue League. (1:57pm)
- Emely Ferreira (28, Lawrence) was issued a summons for operating with a suspended license and speeding. (2:03pm)
- A caller reported her two wallets were stolen while shopping at the TJ Maxx in the Wilmington Plaza. (4:31pm)
- A Buttersworth Street resident requested the Animal Control Officer come out as she has several young kittens around her property. (6:35pm)
- Ira Jaan Simbulan was reported missing to the police. (7:22pm)
- The manager at McDonald’s wished to have a group of teenagers trespassed from the store. Police responded, but teens were already gone. Manager told to call back if teens return. (8:28pm)
- A caller reported she was unable to locate her boyfriend who was swimming in Silver Lake. Man was located soon after the call. No medical issue. Fire and police response was cancelled. (9:18pm)
- A caller stated a smaller SUV, possibly full of teenagers, was driving up and down Sheldon Avenue yelling “I can see you” out the window. Caller stated they did this last week as well. Police were unable to locate the vehicle. (9:32pm)
Tuesday, August 2:
- Joseph A. Russo (54, Malden) was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, speeding, and failure to wear a seat belt. Russo was pulled over on Ballardvale Street. (3:10am)
- An Andover caller requested extra patrols of the Fosters Pond area, stating she believed people were using the public parking lot between 9pm and 11pm to party, causing a disturbance. (10:39am)
- A McDonald Road caller reported 2 individuals — possibly 1 male and 1 female — entered a neighbor’s yard and took a small child’s bike. Caller said they were last seen heading towards Salem Street. Police located both individuals on Cypress Street and retrieved the stolen bike. Both individuals were male juveniles. (10:40am)
- A caller reported her son was riding his bicycle in the area of West Street and Suncrest Avenue and a small sedan did not slow down, striking his bicycle and causing him to fall. Vehicle fled towards Woburn. Mother refused medical attention for her child at this time. (11:18am)
- A silver mountain bike was found at Town Hall and brought to the station. (12:54pm)
- A McDonald’s employee reported an unwanted gathering of teenagers. Police responded and advice teens that would have to behave in an appropriate manner, or they would be trespassed from the property. (3:11pm)
- A Rocco’s employee reported a woman broke a beer glass and refused to pay her tab. She left south on Main Street, possibly towards Billerica. Police contacted Billerica Police to wait for woman at her Billerica residence. Woman’s husband would later come to the restaurant to pay her bill. (7:24pm)
- A Concord Street caller reported he suspects his neighbors are putting screws into the tires of his rental vehicles. Caller has no proof, but is involved in an ongoing property dispute with his neighbors and wanted the incident logged. He will be installing night vision cameras. (9:20pm)
- A caller reported 3-4 teen boys in a black sedan on Horshoe Lane drinking alcohol. Vehicle was gone by the time police arrived. (9:23pm)
- McDonald’s manager reported that a teenager was speeding through the lot and almost collided with several cars. Police advised the teen of the complaint, who promised to drive more cautiously. (9:28pm)
Wednesday, August 3:
- A Concord Street caller wanted it logged that he believed his neighbors was again placing screws in his vehicle’s tires. (6:11am)
- An individual reported a missing male gold wedding band, possibly lost at the National Night Out Event at Rotary Park. The individual later called back to report the ring was found. (8:15am)
- Two 2015 Toyota Camrys were involved in a crash on Boutwell Street. No injuries noted. 1 vehicle was towed. A mailbox was destroyed in the crash with mail all over the roadway. (2:02pm)
- A Shady Lane Drive resident received a call from a company called “NEOA” soliciting for the Wilmington Police Department. Police advised her that the department was not currently soliciting and it could be a scam. (4:44pm)
- Police notified the Water Department of a leak near the concession stand at Town Park. (6:19pm)
- A Woburn Street resident requested speeding enforcement during the morning commute. Caller says cars are passing at a high rate of speed and it’s impossible to get out of their driveway. (7:15pm)
- Police was alerted to a woman sleeping on the bench at Rotary Park. Police escorted the woman back to her residence. (8:28pm)
Thursday, August 4:
- A caller reported sometime last night, his car was struck at Regency Place and has side damage. Caller came to station and officer noted minor damage. (8:06am)
- Police received a report of a man yelling and banging on the fist floor doors at Avalon Oaks West. Management was not comfortable making contact with the party due to past history. Man was upset about being evicted and accused of making statements. Situation was able to resolve itself. (11:03am)
- A gray 2010 Honda Accord, a gray 2006 Saturn Ion and a red 2016 Cadillac were involved in a crash on Main Street. All vehicles were towed. A Verizon pole was also damaged. Injuries not specified. (1:28pm)
- A Baland Road resident reported her dogs were fighting and she was unable to separate them. The Animal Control Officer transported the lab to Best Pets in Tewksbury for care. The pitbull was uninjured. (1:54pm)
- Fire Department responded to an oven fire on Gowing Road. (4:58pm)
- Francis Kiyingi (43, Woburn) was issued a summons for the unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to yield at an intersection, and failure to signal. (7:56pm)
Friday, August 5:
- A resident was walking home on Grove Avenue and was approached by a blue vehicle, whose driver yelled something out of the window. Police stayed on the line with the caller until she reached her home. (12:11am)
- A Pineridge Road resident reported their trash barrels and their neighbors’ trash barrels were missing. (2:36am)
- Police noted the street sign for Pineridge Road was missing. Police notified DPW. (2:43am)
- A Burlington Avenue caller reported two haws were trapped under her back porch. Animal Control Officer was able to release the birds. (8:42am)
- A black 2015 Chrysler SE Limited and a black 2015 Toyota Sienna were involved in a crash at Middlesex Avenue and Federal Street. One vehicle was towed. Unspecified injuries. (11:43am)
- Police received report of a shoplifter at Main Street Consignment & Thrift Shop on Main Street. Shoplifter was a Hispanic female, in her 40’s. Shoplifter was served with a no trespass order. (1:46pm)
- A caller reported his vehicle was keyed in the Registry of Motor Vehicles’ parking lot. Caller said he had pictures of the culprit and the car they left in. Caller said he’ll come to the station to file a report. (2:53pm)
- An Allen Park Drive resident reported that when she returned home, someone was inside her house. She was unable to provide a description. The individual left out the front door when the resident opened it. Police checked the home — nothing appeared missing. Police checked the surrounding area. (4:24pm)
- A man spit on a police cruiser in the parking lot at Cumberland Farms on Main Street. No further information. (6:30pm)
- Police received report of a group of youths playing basketball on the town’s gazebo. Police responded, but youths were already gone. (6:44pm)
- Jane Njenga Gianatasio (58, Lowell) was arrested on outstanding warrants. Gianatasio was arrested in the Sonic parking lot. (11:30pm)
Saturday, August 6:
- Police investigated individuals in the parking lot of Sweet Pizza on Ballardvale Street. Individuals were playing Pokemon Go. Police sent them on their way. (1:30am)
- Police investigated individuals in the parking lot of Town Hall. Individuals were playing Pokemon Go. Building checked secure. (2:18am)
- Fire Department respond to a fire on Bond Street. (2:43am)
- A Cedar Street contacted police to let them know he took into an injured baby rabbit. Police gave him the number of Wilmington Wild Things. (3:52am)
- Police noted vandalism on Forest Street, Taft Street and Swain Road, with multiple street signs, mailboxes and a for sale sign knocked over and/or smashed. (5:07am)
- A Cary Street caller reported a step ladder was moved up against his house and a bench was turned over. Police responded. (6:59am)
- The street sign at Houghton Road and Kendall Street was reported twisted and bent. (8:32am)
- A Burlington Avenue resident reported their mailbox was damaged overnight. A nearby Wasbash Road mailbox was reported missing. (10:27am)
- A walk-in party turned in an air soft riffle for destruction. (11:39am)
- The Polk Road street sign was knocked over and stolen sometime overnight. (12:19pm)
- The Walnut Street street sign was knocked over and taken overnight. (12:20pm)
- The Mather Street street sign was knocked over and taken overnight. (12:21pm)
- A Lincoln Avenue caller requested advice from the Animal Control Officer regarding a deceased skunk in her swimming pool. (12:45pm)
- Callers reported an injured goose in the Target parking lot. Police gave them the number for the Environmental Police. (12:41pm)
- A crash occurred between a gray 2015 Toyota Rav 4 and a brown 2004 Jeep Wrangler in the CVS parking lot. One vehicle towed. An airbag deployed, but the driver refused medical attention. A citation was issued for failure to yield for an oncoming vehicle. (2:42pm)
- Police told an individual looking at the construction of the new park on Cross Street to stay out of the construction area. Police sent him on his way. (5:17pm)
- Police were out with a large group of people in the wooded area between Ristuccia Arena and C&J Lawnmower. Police advised them not to be in the area and sent them on their way. (9:21pm)
- Police received a loud party complaint on Gunderson Road. (10:41pm)
- A Fairmont Avenue resident reported his house was just egged. Rotten bananas were also thrown. (10:45pm)
- Police noted the street sign for Pilling Road was missing. (10:55pm)
