LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Resident Sounds Off On Benevento Company

Dear Editor,

I am writing in response to the article about Benevento Company branding their new fleet of trucks with the “Trump-Pence” logo.

Benevento says “Our Customer’s Success is our #1 Priority.” Where does the health and safety of the citizens of Wilmington and North Reading stand on your priority list? Not only are you part of that ugly eye sore you have made on Salem Street, you also pollute our air ($59k fine from the state for Excessive Air Pollution), you cause damage to our streets by the heavy trucks that leave your facility, and your drivers have been seen and reported to the police for blowing through red traffic lights endangering anyone and anything in their paths.

You have a right to endorse Trump, but be assured there are many of us out here who do not share your political views and this will be reinforced every time we see one of your new trucks.

I, for one, will not be choosing Benevento for any of their products in the future and I encourage the citizens of Wilmington to do the same.

Thomas Walsh
Wilmington

P.S. Good luck repainting your trucks in November.

  1. I thought we had freedom of speech but apparently only if it is something you like!!! This article is absurd!!!!

  2. Tom, Obviously you must live in a tent, on a dirt road. Because if you had a house you would need concrete for the foundation. If you have a driveway, you need asphalt. Even if you have a shed in your yard you would need stone for beneath it. If you have a lawn for your tent, you would need loam to grow it. All things that come from this “eyesore on Rt 62” that you are complaining about. A place that employs many of your neighbors and does many great things in this community.

    1. Margaret. I hate to disappoint you but I don’t live in a tent on a dirt road. I’ve lived in the same house in Wilmington for over 39 years. I’m sure it is not as nice as Mr. Benevento’s home, but it is our home and we raised our children there. However, if I should need any of those products you mentioned you can be sure I won’t buy them from Mr. Benevento. If he wants to use his vehicles to promote his political views I have a right to go to his competition to purchase those products.

  3. After reading the response some individuals have left regarding our support for Donald trump I felt the need to respond. What has made this country great is our freedom of speech,,,our ability to chose leaders ,,,,all rights allotted us by the founding fathers. I saw some threads referring to me as a racist bigot ,,I am far from a racist bigot,,,we are an equal opportunity employer with a diverse workforce . I support fiscal conservative values,,,,if you think Hillary Clinton is the answer and the majority of the United States feel the same she will get elected,,,but it’s my right to support my candidate. My father always told me to ” sell yourself don’t knock the competition” ,,,,it seems that all Clinton supporters can do is knock the competition,,,,,mr Tom Walsh’s off message response to my support of trump was textbook spin,,,my trucks ruin the roads,,,,our trucks all adhere to state and federal, weight laws,,we pay dearly to use the roads,,we take pride in equipment,,,,do Hillary Clinton supporters trucks do any damage mr Walsh,,,,We all need to take a deep breath,,,,,get our govt back to governing,,,,vote in a candidate that will change,,,,find a way to a balanced budget amendment, campaign finance reform and term limits,,,,,,republican or democrat we are a country that should come together and not attack for having different views.

    1. Mr Benevento. I haven’t read any other letters concerning your support of Donald Trump, but my letter did not refer to you as being a racist bigot. I don’t know where that came from but it certainly wasn’t from me. My letter was about your decision to use your trucks to show your support for Mr Trump. You have a right to do it and I have a right to disagree with your decision. I don’t have the money and resources that you have so I am using this letter to the editor method to voice my opinion. I can also choose to use your competition if I want to and encourage others to do the same. I am definitely against Donald Trump ever becoming president of our country. He is by far the worst canidate ever. That’s my opinion. You and your employees can do what you want.

  4. Mr. Walsh, I support your views. And, Mr. Benevento, you are welcome to support a candidate who IS a racist hatemongerer. And I am free to not employ your company.

  5. Here it is January 25th 2017 and the trucks still run the streets proudly, (safely and legally) wearing not only the red, white and blue flag of this great country but also the Trump and Pence names painted proudly on the barrels. No need for repainting thanks to our great democracy and the millions of people that saw through all the fake, biased mainstream media and continuous lies perpetrated by the Democratic Party.
