WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Police Department held its annual National Night Out event on the evening of Tuesday, August 2 at Rotary Park.
“National Night Out is an event designed to bring the public and police department together to talk about safety, crime prevention, and the things that help the police help the citizens,” Wilmington Police Chief Michael Begonis told WCTV’s Joey DeSario.
The popular event featured:
- A Blackhawk helicopter landing and taking off from the ball field. The helicopter was piloted by Geoff Leonard of Wilmington.
- Inflatable slides
- State Police mounted patrol (horses)
- A dunk tank (with proceeds benefiting Cops For Kid With Cancer)
- Face painting
- Fire Department displays and demonstrations, including a vehicle extraction
- Police Department displays and demonstrations, including SWAT gear
- Middlesex Sheriff Department’s Fire Safety Trailer
- K9 demonstration
- Film Screening of Zootopia
- Free food from Red Heat Tavern
- Free ice cream from the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce
- Bike raffles from Target
