POLICE LOG for July 23: Microburst Wreaks Havoc; Fireworks Calls; Pokemon Go

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are FIFTEEN highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for Saturday, July 23, 2016:

  • Police noticed a car parked in the high school’s student parking lot. Situation checked OK. Parties were playing Pokemon. (12:35am)
  • A black 2006 Ford F31 struck a pole and caused some property damage to a Middlesex Avenue property near the Wilmington Congregational Church. Police issued a citation for marked lanes violation, speed, and use of electronics. (2:57am)
  • Police investigated suspicious activity at Grace Chapel. Situation checked OK. Individuals were playing Pokemon Go. (2:59am)
  • Police confiscated a small amount of a Class D substance during a traffic stop (for failure to use headlines) on Main Street. (3:40am)
  • A black 2008 Honda Accord and a mail truck were involved in a crash on Salem Street. One driver was transported to the hospital. One vehicle was towed. (1:07pm)
  • A resident reported the Cambridge Street street sign had been vandalized. (2:43pm)
  • A caller reported the U.S. Flag came off the flagpole at Cummings Properties on Concrd Street and was laying on the ground. Police recovered the flag.  The flag’s rope had snapped. Police contacted Cummings. (4:34pm)
  • A lifeguard requested a police check of the beach after people in line were getting angry as the beach was at capacity. (4:47pm)
  • A Burlington Avenue resident reported his mailbox was vandalized. (6:47pm)
  • Trees and limbs were reported down on Wirth Avenue, Phillips Avenue, Coral Street, Canal Street, King Street, Veranda Avenue, and Cottonwood Circle (7:10pm-7:45pm).
  • Wires were reported down on Gloria Way, Coral Street, and Bay Street. (7:52pm-8:46pm)
  • Police received a report of 4-8 individuals setting off fireworks in the field at the North Intermediate School on Main Street.  Individuals were gone by the time police arrived. (9:21pm)
  • A caller reported a lot of fireworks were coming from the end of Blanchard Road. Police advised the parties to cease. (11:00pm)
  • Fire Department transported an intoxicated man making self-threatening statements. (11:28pm)
  • North Reading Police stated they were flagged down by someone who saw a white man getting out of a light blue Volvo trying to get a white female off the ground and into the vehicle on Salem Street. Police were unable to locate. (11:50pm)
