STONEHAM, MA — Three Wilmington students will be taking the stage at Stoneham Theatre during the young company Summer Festival 2016. Stoneham Theatre’s young company offers year-round theatrical training and performance opportunities for students in grades 1-12.
The young company Summer Festival includes six productions: The AristoCats Kids, the Dinosaur Musical, and the colorful and inspiring story of Barnum performed by actors in grades 4-9, alongside the musical satire Urinetown, the musical adaptation of the classic Little Women, and the dazzling legends of Arabian Nights performed by students in grades 10-12 and recent high school graduates.
Maura Sullivan, portraying Jenny, will appear in Barnum, the colorful and exciting musical story of the man who created “The Greatest Show on Earth!” Come join the circus with legendary showman Phineas T Barnum. Theater goers will meet The Oldest Woman Alive, Little Tom Thumb, and more jugglers, trapeze artists, and clowns.
Sophia DeHart will portray Alley Cat in Disney’s The AristoCats Kids, a heartwarming action-packed adventure. In the heart of Paris, a kind and eccentric millionairess wills her entire estate to Duchess, her high-society cat, and her three little kittens. Mayhem ensues as the jealous Butler catnaps them all, leaving them far from home! Now it’s up to the rough-and-tumble alley cat, Thomas O’Malley, and his band of swingin’ jazz cats to save the day.
Isabelle Richards will appear as Little Sally in Tony Award winner Urinetown, the musical satire about freedom and the privilege to pee. Water is worth its weight in gold in this hilarious tale of greed, corruption, and hope. In a futuristic, post-drought world, people must pay to urinate. Citizens must use public amenities managed by a malicious company that profits from the poor. But heroic and idealistic Bobby Strong has had enough and plans a revolution to lead the people to freedom!
