WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Youth Soccer  GU12-1 team made it to the Final Four at this year’s Massachusetts Tournament of Champions (MTOC).

These amazing girls, coached by Robert Regan and Tom Genthner, played ambitiously defeating all three teams in the opening round of play with all shutouts.  Game 1 vs Peabody (Essex YS league); Wilmington won 3-0. Game 2 vs. Littleton (Nashoba Valley YS league); Wilmington won 2-0. Game 3 vs. North Adams (Berkshire YS league); again Wilmington beat their opponent, 1-0.

Wilmington entered the semifinals, The Final Four, as the #1 seed with all wins and no goals scored against them.  The exciting semifinal game vs. Mendon/Upton (Midland Area YS league) ended in a 0-0 tie. This was against a team who had scored over 35 goals during regular season and 14 during MTOC alone.  Unfortunately, this united Wilmington team lost on overtime penalty kicks but during the game these competitive Wildcats were able to shut down this Menden/Upton team who ultimately ended up MTOC champs.

This awesome Wilmington group represented the Middlesex League well. They were the only GU12 division 1 team to allow zero goals against in all games. They were one of only three to four teams, both boys and girls, in the whole tournament to make it to the semifinals with zero goals against them.  This is while playing with the best teams in the state. Just making it to MTOC is challenging with hundreds of teams vying for a spot. Making it to the semifinals is even more difficult but to do this with all shutouts is rare indeed.

Congratulations to this incredible soccer team on an exceptional season. You represented our town and our league with outstanding Wildcat pride.
