Wilmington Nurse Honored At Fenway Park, Receives Scholarship

WILMINGTON, MA – As part of its annual National Nurses Week celebration, Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) honored 41 nurses and a patient care technician with awards for excellence in practice, and granted more than $100,000 in scholarships in support of nursing education. Scholarships were awarded to 40 nurses who are furthering their education and to four additional staff members who are studying to become nurses. The honorees were recognized during a ceremony tonight at Fenway Park.

Elsy Jaison, of Wilmington, was one of the 40 nurses honored, receiving a scholarship.

National Nurses Week celebrates the dedication, professionalism and talents of nurses in delivering the highest level of compassionate care. Each year, BIDMC honors nurses who have made extraordinary contributions to patient care.

“We are deeply proud of everything our nurses do to care for and support our patients and their families,” said Kevin Tabb, MD, President and CEO of BIDMC. “The gifted caregivers we celebrate this year as part of National Nurses Week are at the center of all we do, and I’m proud to have them as colleagues.”

“At Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, our nurses deliver exceptional, patient-centered care each and every day,” said Marsha Maurer, RN, Senior Vice President for Patient Care Services and Chief Nursing Officer at BIDMC. “All year long, the medical center receives messages of thanks from grateful patients applauding the great care they received here and, often, celebrating lifelong bonds they have formed with their nurses. We are truly thankful for the skill and dedication our nurses bring to work with them each and every day.”

Recipients of awards for excellence were nominated and selected by peers in their area of expertise. Scholarship award recipients were selected based on their academic standing in a baccalaureate, graduate or post-graduate nursing degree program and excellence in nursing practice. A number of philanthropic funds at BIDMC provide support for scholarships in nursing.

In addition, this year’s nursing gift, a donation of $5,000 made on behalf of the more than 2,000 nurses at BIDMC, was presented to Cradles to Crayons.
