WILMINGTON, MA — Below are recent Wilmington Little League game summaries.
Giants vs. Astros (Baseball — Farm League) — Saturday, May 7, 2016
Despite missing 5 key players due to competing priorities like communions, soccer games and overdue homework assignments, the Giants showed up with their games faces on! The offense was on fire as every player notched a multiple hit game lead by Tommy Pereira, Cam Saija, & Chase Kennedy who each contributed with extra base hits. David Vitale, Dante McCollem, and Ayden Riveria also flashed the leather with outstanding defensive plays in the field and Will Poyant was dazzling on the mound in one inning of work. The Astros’ Erin McCarthy made a spectacular all-out diving catch at second base. Ryan Gray made two unassisted outs at first base and Quinn Stockman was a standout in the outfield. Also contributing to an outstanding defensive performance were Justin Fricia, Roman DiZoglio, Kevin Pruslin, and James Passerini among many others. DiZoglio & Stockman did a great job during their pitching debuts. Friscia and Mikey Taylor each had five-hit games. Isaac Tavaras had a couple of bombs and Evan Cummings ripped a pair of singles. Gray & Passerini each went four-for-four and Pruslin & DiZoglio each added three hits. Every player had at least one hit.
Athletics vs. Cardinals (Baseball — Farm League) — Saturday, May 14, 2016
The A’s played a great game all around, defensively, offensively, and on the mound. Timmy Watson had many great plays including a catch on a line drive to the outfield that surprised everyone. The team had a particularly great last inning with hits all through the lineup, led by big hits to the outfield from ReileyYoung and Roman Synnott, who also pitched a solid 3rd inning. Another highlight of the game was the last inning in the field when Johnny Bottari made three straight catches at first base for a 1-2-3 inning. Nolan Gouthro also pitched a solid 4th inning. The Cardinals played very well too with a lot of hits, some great defense, and solid pitching.
Braves vs. Astros (Baseball — Farm League) — Saturday, May 14, 2016
A fantastic team effort was displayed by the Braves this past Saturday. Lead by strong pitching performances by Charlotte Forcina and Nolan Richards, solid defensive plays by Ethan Afthim and Alex D’Angelo, and great plate appearances by Matt Driscoll and Kaleb Stanley. For the Astros, Chris DeFilippo exploded for four hits joining Quinn Stockman, Evan Cummings, Connor Sullivan, and Dylan Alexander who also had four each. Kevin Pruslin had three hits and struck out a batter in his pitching debut. Mikey Taylor had his third five-for-five game (and has gotten out exactly once all year!) He also had a spectacular diving catch at 2nd base. Erin McCarthy fielded all three outs during her inning on the mound added three hits of her own. There was a lot more outstanding fielding by many others including Stockman, DeFilippo, Taylor, Sullivan, McCarthy, and Justin Fricia who played the field despite an injury.
