WILDCAT WAKEUP: Errors Cost WHS Baseball Against 1st Place Wakefield

WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Varsity Baseball Team (8-6) fell to Wakefield (13-2), 8 to 3, on Thursday afternoon at Wakefield High.

Wilmington starter Matt Woods was the victim of some sloppy defense as 7 of the runs he gave up were of the unearned variety.

Wilmington kept it close for much of the afternoon, but, in the 6th inning of a 3-3 tie, Wakefield’s offense exploded with 5 runs, putting the game out of reach for the Wildcats.

Danny Gracia led the offense for the Wildcats with 2 hits, including a  double. Chris Grecco, Joe Kelley and Nick Poli also recorded hits. Gracia, Kelley and Gillis each had one RBI.

NEXT UP: The WHS Baseball Team (8-6) takes on Watertown on Monday at 6pm at Victory Field in Watertown.
