WILMINGTON, MA — Don Anderson found peace and life’s eternal rest on Friday, April 29, 2016 while at Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers. He was 61.
Donald F. Anderson, Jr. was born June 19, 1954 in Somerville, a son of the late Donald F. and Adelaide (DiGrazia) Anderson. He graduated with the class of 1972 from Somerville High School and after that served with the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He married Karen R. Vincuilla in the Youville Place Chapel of the Grey Nuns in Lexington on October 24, 1981. They lived many years in Waltham before making their home in Wilmington in 2008.
Don worked for the Polaroid Corporation for many years and later was a heavy equipment operator, a job he very much enjoyed. For over 10 years he owned and operated C.D.A. Construction Company.
His passions included most things outdoors from bird watching, a good game of golf and working outside with a project always on hand. Don suffered a stroke in August, 2012 but worked hard in rehab so that he could continue to do the things that he loved including returning to the golf course. He took up the art of making walking sticks which became gifts to friends. Don will always be remembered for his sense of humor and being the ever present ‘jokester’. An avid sports enthusiast he loved all Boston sports. Most especially though, Don loved his family, his first grandson, Jack and his dog Tucker.
In addition to his wife of 34 years, Karen, he leaves their children, Donald R. Anderson and his wife, Julia, of Marietta, Georgia and Chelsea S. Anderson and her loving partner, Carl Boncoeur, of Tewksbury; his siblings, Mark Anderson of Medford and Leah Simari and her husband, Franc, of Andover; his new grandson, Jack Richard Anderson and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will honor and remember Don’s life by gathering for calling hours in The Joyce Funeral Home, 245 Main Street (Rte. 20), Waltham on Tuesday, May 3rd from 4 to 8 p.m. and again at 9 a.m. on Wednesday morning before leaving in procession to Sacred Heart Church, 311 River Street, Waltham where his Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Burial will be in Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne at 1:15 p.m.
Memorials in his name may be made to Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital, Outpatient Services Department, 145 Ward Hill Avenue, Bradford, MA 01835.
