Help Clean Up The Shawsheen River

BILLERICA, MA — The Shawsheen River Watershed Association recently announced it will participate in Billerica’s Clean Up Day on Saturday, May 14 at 10am.

The Association will be hosting a paddle along the Billerica stretch of the river, starting at Pinehurst Park and ending at a path off Buckingham Drive.

Volunteers will meet at 10am at Pinehurst Park and stop frequently to remove trash and debris that is found.

If you wish to participate, please bring all of your own equipment (e.g., canoe, kayak, life vests, tools, and gloves to protect from frequent poison ivy and thorns).

To receive free bags and gloves from the town, you can register for Billerica’s Cleanup Day at the Billerica DPW in Town Hall, although it is not required.

If you cannot or do not want to paddle, but want to help cleanup the river, volunteers can remove debris and litter from shorelines, accessible swamps, and tributary streams such as Jones Brook and Webb Brook.

Volunteers must sign a waiver prior to participating.

(NOTE: The above information is from the Shawsheen River Watershed Association’s website.)
