WILDCAT WAKEUP: WHS Baseball Suffers Hard Luck Loss Despite Dominant Performance From Gillis

WILMINGTON, MA — WHS Baseball (2-2) fell to undefeated Belmont, 2-0, at Belmont High on Wednesday.

In a battle of aces, Wilmington’s Jackson Gillis (1-1) was dominant, striking out 11 in 5 innings. Gillis gave up an unearned run in the 2nd inning.  After Gillis left the game, Belmont scored a second unearned run in the sixth inning.

Belmont’s own ace Cole Bartels rose to the occasion, throwing a complete game 1-hitter, striking out 15 Wildcats.  Wilmington’s Brian Cavanaugh had the most success against Bartels, recording a double and two walks.  Wilmington’s Chris Gracco (walk) and Matt Wods (hit by pitch) were the only other Wildcats to reach base.
