SELECTMEN NEWS: Town Common To Get ‘Welcomed’ Addition

WILMINGTON, MA — At Monday night’s Board of Selectmen Meeting, the Board unanimously voted to authorize the establishment of a “Welcome to Wilmington” sign at the northerly end of the Town Common, at the intersection of Middlesex Avenue and Church Street.

“Given the Common’s prominence as the focal point of Town activities, establishing a sign in this location will be highly visible and reflect a positive message to all who travel through Town,” noted Hull.

The double-sided sign will have engraved lettering painted white on a blue background with the Town seal.  The cedar sign board is 30″ x 60″ x 1.75″ cedar sign board.  Both granite posts are 12″ x 12″ x 8′.

The cost of the sign and installation is estimated at $7,000, which Hull believes will be primarily funded through donations from local community organizations.

The sign was the brainchild of resident Audrey Reed.  Reed’s idea was brought to the Town Manager by Selectman Lou Cimaglia.
