Help Fulfill This Wilmington Man’s Last Wish For His Family

WILMINGTON, MA — On Friday, April 29 at 7pm, the Wilmington community is encouraged to rally around one of its own and attend a fundraiser at Kitty’s Restaurant (123 Main Street, North Reading).

Bernie’s Story (taken directly from the Bernie’s Wish website)

Bernie McNally is a caring and thoughtful 6th grade Social Studies and English teacher at the Timony School in Methuen. He is a life-long resident of Wilmington. Bernie taught CCD at St. Dorothy’s for over 20 years and for the same duration worked summers for the Wilmington Recreation Department. Bernie’s smile, outgoing demeanor, and contagious laugh brightens everyone’s day!

In December of 2014, Bernie was diagnosed with terminal brain cancer. While Bernie was receiving treatment and fighting his disease his brother Patrick passed away suddenly, leaving sons Patrick and Seamus. Bernie has assumed the role of father for the boys. Patrick and Seamus are Bernie’s world!

Sadly, in March 2016, Bernie was told that there are no more treatments available to treat his cancer. Since his diagnosis Bernie has had to leave his teaching position. Bernie’s primary concern throughout his ordeal has been his nephews and their well being. Bernie’s wish is that with all the loss his nephews have endured that they are able to remain in their home. Proceeds from this event will help make Bernie’s wish possible. The pleasant and caring way Bernie lives his life is an inspiration to all!

  1. Hi Bernie, I don’t know if you remember me,? Theresa Greenleaf, last name is Jabour now. Anyways I am truly sorry to hear about medical condition. You where always one of happiest kids in school no matter. You always had something nice to say to me every time I talked to you. My prayers are with you my friend

    1. I do! I remember you fondly. My condition may not not be what I hoped for, but I will last as long as I do (and so far not too badly either) and will prepare my boys for survival.
