WILMINGTON, MA — It’s a party. It’s a show. It’s fitness. But most of all it’s fun. “No experience necessary,” says event organizer and former New England Patriots cheerleader Kelli LaVita. The 9th Annual Zumba Event for Local Children’s Charities will be held April 10 at 6:30 pm at the North Intermediate School in Wilmington.
LaVita’s Zumba party will feature over 20 instructors from all over New England. This year the theme is “Gone Wild.” Wilmington’s Steve Greco of 343 Productions is the volunteer DJ. Last year alone the sold-out event raised $2800.
LaVita has been dancing since age three and instructing since she was eighteen. LaVita’s four years as a Patriots cheerleader allowed her to combine her love for dance and her passion for fitness, but there was more to it. “It also opened my eyes to the many local charitable organizations in the area,” she explains.
One hundred percent of the proceeds go to the charities. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. There will be raffles, door prizes, and more. This year the organizations receiving donations are Boston Children’s Hospital and Birthday Wishes.
The Birthday Wishes organization provides cakes and presents to homeless children. A birthday party is a luxury that homeless families and the shelters they live in cannot afford. But yet that event is so important to a young child. Having a celebration brings some joy and normalcy into their lives. LaVita and Team Loca Motion support Birthday Wishes all year long.
