Selectmen Notebook: 10 Things That Happened At Last Week’s Meeting

WILMINGTON, MA — Here are TEN things that happened at the Wilmington Board of Selectmen Meeting on Wednesday, February 10 at 7pm at Town Hall:

#1) The Wilmington Board of Selectmen appointed Christopher Sullivan as Wilmington’s next Animal Control Officer.  Sullivan had worked as a dispatcher in Wilmington’s Public Safety Central Dispatch Department since January 2015.  Learn more HERE.

#2) Town Manager Jeff Hull provided an update on the Glen Road/Middlesex Avenue/Wildwood Street Intersection Project.  The project is nearing completion, but the traffic lights will be in a “flashing mode” for at least four weeks before being fully operational.  Learn more HERE.

#3) Town Manager Jeff Hull provided an update on the Yentile Farm Recreation Facility, noting the overall project “remains on target.”  The construction bids were open on February 5.  $4.8 million was budgeted.  Bids ranged from $3.845 million to $5.568 million. #4) Town Manager Jeff Hull shared a memo from Town Account Michael Morris announcing the Massachusetts Department of Revenue recently certified Wilmington’s “Free Cash” reserves  (“Rainy Day Fund”) at $15,561,932, as of July 1, 2015.  Morris noted:”Free Cash allows communities to address financial problems, supplement budgets and to take advantage of opportunities as they arise. In recent years, the town has taken advantage of Free Cash to purchase land, fund capital outlay, further fund the Capital Stabilization Fund, and to address liabilities such as OPEB and retirement.”

#5) The Wilmington Board of Selectmen signed the warrant for the Presidential Primary Election to be held on March 1, 2016.  Polls will be open from 7am to 8pm.

#6) The Wilmington Board of Selectmen approved the request of Town Clerk Sharon George to appoint 2016 Election Workers.

#7) The Wilmington Board of Selectmen approved the request from the Recreation Commission to use the Town Common to conduct the Annual Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday, March 26 at 2pm.

#8) The Wilmington Board of Selectmen approved the request of resident Ken Brown to use Rotary Park and Playground on Saturday, March 19, from noon to 3pm, for a family party.

#9) Per federal law, Verizon and Comcast submitted their 2015 complaint data from Wilmington subscribers to the town.  Verizon noted 73 equipment complaints and 2 service interruptions from residents. Comcast reported 12 service interruptions — 9 widespread, 3 minor — in town.

#10) Town Manager Hull provided the Selectmen with an update regarding potential litigation stemming from the Sutton Brook Disposal Area Super Fund Site in Tewksbury.

NOTES: Selectmen also discussed a letter from Scott Garrant, Chairman of the Fourth of July Committee, which became moot after the Board of Appeals vote which appeared that night.  ** Selectman Lou Cimaglia was absent from the meeting. ** The Selectmen next meet on Monday, February 22 at 7pm at Town Hall.
