BY THE NUMBERS: Wilmington Police & Fire Have A Busy 2015

WILMINGTON, MA — The Town Manager’s recently released FY2017 budget booklet includes a quick rundown of some interesting public safety statistics that readers may find interesting.

Wilmington Police received 21,284 requests for services/complaint calls in 2015, an increase of 1,008 – or 5% – from 2014.

Wilmington Fire made 3,640 runs in 2015, a slight increase of 16 – or 0.44% — from 2014.

  • Police Officers — 48
  • Police Cruisers — 22
  • Requests for Services/Complaints — 21,284 — 58.3 per day
  • Citations Issued (minus arrests) — 3,464 — 9.49 per day
  • Automobile Accidents Responded To — 426 — 1.16 per day
  • Summons Issued — 221 — 0.6 per day
  • Arrests Made — 205 — 0.56 per day
  • Firearms Permits Issued — 226

Wilmington Fire Department Statistics For 2015

  • Firefighters — 40
  • Runs — 3,640 — 9.97 per day
  • Ambulance Calls — 2,416 — 6.19 per day
  • Motor Vehicle Crashes Responded To — 391 — 1.07 per day
  • Out of Town Assistance — 215 — 0.589 per day
  • Ambulance Services
    • Fall Victim – 301
    • Difficulty Breathing – 228
    • Chest Pains – 145
    • Psychological Evaluation – 89
    • Overdoses – 66
    • Other Medical – 61

The number of fires responded to was NOT included in this batch of statistics. To give you an idea, however, according to the latest Annual Town Report, the Fire Department, in 2014, responded to 1 commercial building fire, 18 brush fires, 2 chimney fires, 4 stove fires, 14 car/truck fires, and provided mutual aid at 21 additional fires.  I’ll make sure to follow up when the 2015 Annual Town Report is published in a few months.
