Here’s Wilmington Apple’s Question of the Day for November 12: What are your thoughts on the Town Manager and Selectmen not supporting a proposal to locate a double-sided 14′ x 48′ electronic billboard along 93 in Wilmington?
While the billboard could have generated up to $6.125 million to Wilmington over the 50-year agreement, Hull believed it wouldn’t be a good fit for the the town’s image, and would be difficult, legally, to disallow in other areas of town.
“Electronic billboards do not present the image that Wilmington is seeking to promote,” Hull wrote in a memo discussed by Selectmen at their meeting on Monday. “Preparing modifications to the current zoning by-law to permit such signage while confining it to the Interstate 93 corridor would be very challenging. While the proposed agreement offers a guaranteed payment for 50 years, there are many questions about the likelihood of such payment continuing for the duration of such an agreement.”
