Wilmington Youth Soccer’s Latest In-Town Game Summaries (September 26)

Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, September 26, 2015.

Boys Grade 1 Games

Seattle Sounder FC vs. LA Galaxy

A back and forth contest between West Coast rivals as the LA Galaxy and the Seattle Sounder FC matched up on a beautiful September afternoon.

The action started from the opening whistle where scoring was scare for the first half of the game but as the game wore on there was a flurry of scoring.   Jonathan Stokes tallied twice and single goals were added by Richard Holland, Cameron Molina and Jake Driscoll.  With the see saw action in the match Henry Almeda, Nicholas Melargani and Jack Morin made several defensive plays to complete the team effort on a sparkling fall day.

Girls Grade 1 Games:

Kansas City vs. Chicago Red Stars

One could only believe the silence of the crowd was due to the fantastic ball skill of Savannah Beatrice, Hailey Reguera and Emma Callahan. However it did not take long for the crowd to cheer as an amazing goal was scored by Lucy Mendoza. The Kansas City defensive stand made by Caitlin Hayes, Ellie Gillis, Daniella Madore and Olivia Raposa could only be viewed as heroic.

Girls Grade 2 Games:

Washington Spirit vs. Seattle Reign

The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated match between WASHINGTON SPIRIT and SEATTLE REIGN commenced. Fantastic ball skill were displayed by Maria McCarthy resulting in goals by Mackenzie Scanlon, Sarah Sampson, Emma Callahan, and Maddie Gryglik. The midfield and defensive play of Maeve Doherty and Abbiagael Wiklund kept the WASHINGTON SPIRIT in excellent shape. The crowd roared to their feet when Macy Savage and Cara DiGiovanni made some spectacular saves.

Portland Thorns vs. Boston Breakers

The Boston Breaker’s defensive stand, led by Madelyn Oatis, Sabrina Fitzgerald, not only struck fear in the Portland Thorns, but will be feared by future opponents as well. It was this team defense that led to counter attacks by Nicole Gallucci, Samantha Crowley, and Marina Feeney, ultimately leading to goals scored by Alexis LeBlanc, Summer Sands, and Katherine Hughes. Timely saves by Micayla King and Leah Murphy helped strengthen a solid team effort.

Boys Grade 2 Games:

DC United vs. Columbus Crew

The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game. DC United led by Timothy Watson, Luke Deprofio and Ryan Gray got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Chase Heffernan and Adam Veliz led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Dylan Grace, Quinn Stockman, and Brendan Ferrone kept the action going. Great saves in net by Ethan Afthim, Alexander D’Angelo, Logan Zimmer, and Luke Kitanov.
