Mildred Louise (Johnson) Bean, 90, of Black Cat Island Road, died Monday, Aug. 31, 2015, at Lakes Region General Hospital.
Louise was born on Dec. 15, 1924, she was the daughter of Fred Louis Johnson and Hilma (Anderson) Johnson. Louise grew up in Concord.
After graduating from Concord High School in the National Honor Society, she attended the University of New Hampshire and graduated with a BS degree in hospital dietetics. She worked at Massachusetts General Hospital, was a registered dietitian and became the teaching dietitian for MGH School Of Nursing.
Louise was also a senior nutritionist for the State of New York in Albany and was on the nursing school faculty for Western Pennsylvania Hospital in Pittsburgh. Her education career continued when she moved to Massachusetts and taught at Bigelow Junior High in Newton Mass. While there she earned an MS degree in Early Childhood Education from Wheelock College. She went on to set up a program in that field at Wilmington High School in Wilmington Mass., and taught there for several years before retiring.
Louise was a gifted violinist and was a member and past president of the Arlington Philharmonic Orchestra in Arlington Mass. She played at many concerts as first violinist during her 10 years with the orchestra. As a longtime resident of Lexington Mass., and Moultonborough, she enjoyed being part of a bell ringing choir at her church and was in quilting groups in Lexington Mass., the Belknap Mill Quilters Guild in Laconia, and the Country Quilters Guild in Moultonborough.
Louise is survived by her son, Matthew H. Bean, of Moultonborough; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by her husband Russell H. Bean.
There will be no calling hours. Burial will be private.
