Sean Collier Memorial Playground ‘Build Days,’ Fundraiser, Grand Opening Announced

WILMINGTON, MA — On Monday, September 21st, the Where Angels Play Foundation we will be breaking ground on a playground, situated at Silver Lake, in memory of Wilmington native Sean Collier and his sacrifices made during and after the horrific Boston Marathon bombings.

According to Roberta Boyle, a member of the Where Angels Play Foundation, the project’s current timeline is below:

  • The playground is slated to be built on Tuesday, September 22nd and Wednesday, September 23rd, with Friday, September 25th an option if necessary.
  • A “Salute to Sean Collier” fundraiser will be held at the Tewksbury/Wilmington Elks (777 South Street, Tewksbury) on Friday, September 25th, 6pm to 11pm. Peter Lavender and the Limbo Souls will be the featured performers. Tickets cost $26 and can be purchased at the door. Contact Roberta Boyle at with questions.
  • A public grand opening (including ribbon cutting) is planned for Saturday, September 26 at 10am.

Local public safety organizations have made commitments to provide food for lunch and volunteers during build, noted Boyle.

“What better way to honor Sean Collier’s memory than through the laughter and joy of countless children in a playground bearing his name?,” asked Boyle.

Sean’s playground is the first of (at least) four playgrounds to be built in the Boston/Metro Boston area to memorialize those lost during the 2013 Boston Marathon tragedy.

The Where Angels Play Foundation, a 501(c)(3) volunteer organization, depends on donations from the communities to pay it forward. Inspired by the senseless violence in Newtown, CT, the Where Angels Play Foundation was founded to build 26 playgrounds along the coasts of New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, to honor the 26 angels of Sandy Hook Elementary School while restoring communities ravished by Superstorm Sandy.
