Kenneth J. Durkin, Sr., 78, of Marlborough died Friday, July 24, 2015 at Brookdale Cushing Park in Framingham after a lengthy illness.
He was the husband of the late Barbara J. (Chamberlain) Durkin who died in 2009. He leaves his children; Maureen A. Baker and her husband Raymond of Marlborough, Timothy A. Durkin and his fiancée Anne Hubert of Hudson and Brian D. Durkin and his wife Heidi of Marlborough. He also leaves nine grandchildren; Samantha, Joey, Hollie, Danielle, Shawn, Cullen, Caisley, Lydia and Kenneth and one great granddaughter Izabella. He also leaves his daughter-in-law Patricia J. (Donaghue) Durkin of Marlborough who was the wife of the late Kenneth J. “Ken” Durkin who died in 2008.
He was born in Newton, son of the late Edward and Alice (Tremault) Durkin and lived most of his life in Marlboro- ugh, Massachusetts. He was a graduate of St. Mary’s High School in Newton and for almost fifty years he was employed as a Machinist for Thermo Electron (Tecomet) of Wilmington until his retirement in 1990. He was known as “Mr. Fix It” in his neighborhood. He enjoyed walking every day and going to yard sales on the weekend.
Calling hours at the John P. Rowe Funeral Home Inc., 57 Main St., Marlborough, will be held on Monday, July 27, 2015 from 4-8 PM. Funeral services and burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Marlborough are private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to either Our Danny Cancer Fund, UMass Memorial Foundation, P.O. Box 2795, Worcester, MA 01613 or to Alzheimer’s Association MA/NH Chapter, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
