OBITUARY: Helen E. Garnett (Worden), 88

Helen E. Garnett, 88, of Sanford, Maine, passed away at the Orlando Regional Medical Center on Wednesday, April 15, 2015. She was born in Brighton, Massachusetts on February 20, 1927, a daughter of the late Ronald and Mary (Rogers) Worden.

The family moved to St. John’s, New Brunswick when she was three years old. She graduated in 1943 from St. John’s High School. In 1947 she moved to Boston with her husband, Walter. She was employed as a bookkeeper for Sears and Roebuck until 1954 when her first son was born. She then stayed at home to raise her family until they were in Junior High. She went back to work as a bookkeeper for different oil companies, which she did until 1980.

She was active in the Wilmington Methodist Church in Massachusetts and when she moved to Sanford she continued being active with the Cross Roads Methodist Church in which she was involved in the planning and getting the new church built. She was active in her children’s lives; she enjoyed crafts, knitting, sewing and was a member of the church craft group.

She is predeceased by her husband, Walter A. Garnett, brother, Ronald Worden, Sr., sisters, Ruth Stone, Winnie Sheppard and Kay Cady.

She is survived by two sons, Gary A. Garnett and his wife, Sandy, Richard E. Garnett and his wife, Ellie grandsons, Marc Garnett, Duncan Garnett, Camden Garnett, Lachlan Garnett, as well as many nieces and nephews from the Unites States and New Brunswick.

Visiting hours will be on Saturday April 25th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Carll-Heald & Black Funeral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale. A funeral service will be held on Sunday April 26th at 2:00 PM at the funeral home. Burial will be on Monday April 27th at 10 a.m. at the Wildwood Cemetery in Wilmington, Massachusetts.
