READING, MA – Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD) will host two upcoming events to celebrate Earth Day on April 25 and National Bike Month in May on May 9.
The Reading Climate Advisory Committee is sponsoring an Earth Day Alternative Energy Home and Car event on Saturday, April 25, from 10 am to 2 pm at RMLD, 230 Ash Street in Reading. Plug-in vehicles and all-electric cars from Liberty Chevrolet, Woburn Foreign Motors, Stoneham Ford and Nissan will be on site.
Representatives from Astrum Solar, Endless Mountains Solar Services, Cooling Unlimited, RES Solar, M & M Chimney, Charge Point, Energy Smart and RMLD will be available to talk about solar voltaic, solar thermal and geothermal energy, combined heat and power, biomass sources of alternative energy, Mitsubishi heat pumps, electric charging stations and RMLD energy audits and rebates for energy efficient appliances and light bulbs. The Bicycle Recycling and Giveaway is sponsored by Reading Cares, with support from Reading Climate Advisory Committee, REI and the Reading Police Department to offer the public the opportunity to donate their bikes and select other used or new ones. The event will take place on Saturday, May 9, from noon to 12:30 pm for voucher holders and 12:30-1:30 for the general public at RMLD’s customer parking lot, 230 Ash Street in Reading.
Donate your new or used bicycle at RMLD’s customer parking lot on either Friday, May 8, between 11 am and 12:30 pm, or Saturday, May 9, between 9-11 am, and receive a voucher for early admittance. Voucher holders get first dibs on another new or used bike on Saturday from noon to 12:30 pm. The first 50 donors also qualify for an REI discount coupon.
