(The below information was emailed to the Wilmington Youth Hockey Association’s mailing list members yesterday. It was also placed on the organization’s website.)
WILMINGTON, MA — The Board of Directors of Wilmington Youth Hockey is proud to announce that the program has been awarded a Mike Cheever “Grow Hockey” Development Grant for 2015. The purpose of the grant Program is to seek, fund, and share within Mass Hockey, innovative methods for growing ice hockey participation in our Town, Girls/Women and Disabled Hockey Programs. Funds received from the Mike Cheever “Grow Hockey” Development Grant shall be used to increase the number of new players or retain existing players in the submitting Program. The Cheever Program may also be used by programs to adopt and implement practices consistent with ADM.
Wilmington Youth Hockey will grow the game by providing more “Try hockey free” events throughout the year. Currently, we follow USA Hockey’s model of just two events a season, but we feel more would be better. We will target the age groups of 4 – 9 years old so that we can potentially grow our Learn to Play or Buzzer level with kids who come to an event and want to join our program. We will add two more try hockey free events – one in the fall and one in the spring – to give us a total of 4 events a year. All events will use ADM practice plans directly from the USA Hockey website.
