WILMINGTON, MA — PLAY BALL! At last night’s Selectmen’s Meeting, the Board unanimously approved the request of Wilmington Little League to conduct a parade on Saturday, April 18 at 9:30am, from the Town Common to Rotary Park, in conjunction with the league’s Opening Day Ceremonies.
A rain date of Sunday, April 19 was chosen. If the fields are not in a playable condition on April 18 or April 19, the Parade, now in its seventh year, would be held on Sunday, April 26.
“The League really appreciates the support of the Town, DPW, police and fire, this board, and the Town Manager,” Wilmington Little League Vice President Brian Kane told the Selectmen. “You’re all very supportive and come to [the Opening Day Ceremony] every year. You all have ties to the league.”
Hayden Kane, Brian’s young school-aged son and “trusted advisor,” detailed the League’s plans for Opening Day, noting the parade will begin at the Fourth of July Building at 9:30am, continuing down Middlesex Avenue to Rotary Park. After the Opening Day Ceremonies, a match-up between the Orioles and Tigers will officially start the season. The Wilmington Kiwanis Club will be serving hot dogs.
“Hayden, you did a wonderful job and you look fantastic,” said Selectman Lou Cimaglia, before making the motion to approve the request.
