Wilmington’s 7th Grade Boys Basketball Travel Team Wins League Championship

WILMINGTON, MA — On Sunday afternoon, the Wilmington 7th Grade Boys (Blue) Basketball Travel Team became champions of the Merrimack Valley Youth Basketball League, defeating Windham, 41 to 38, at Tewksbury High School.

After the game, head coach Andre Vega told the Wilmington Apple, “The game was very intense. A dog fight the entire way. Our kids played very hard and were able to come out on top.”  Vega also noted, in post-game remarks, that the victory provided “sweet redemption” for this team, as Windham defeated Wilmington twice by 1 point in the regular season.

Congratulations to all the players (and their parents!): Ryan Clarke, Dominick Demonico, Joseph Demonico, David Fraser, Sean Kelley, Patrick McAndrew, Keith McDonald, Kevin Palmerino, Connor Paquette, Dominic Pedi, and Randall Vega. Congratulations to coaches Andre Vega and Jay Kelley as well!

Several scenes from the afternoon were captured and uploaded to YouTube. Here is the championship sweatshirt ceremony, the players & parents displaying some Wilmington Pride, and the game’s final moments.
