TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Portion Of Woburn St. To Be Closed From 7AM To 3PM For 3 Weeks Beginning May 28

Below is an announcement from the Wilmington Department of Public Works:

WILMINGTON, MA — Please be advised that the Massachusetts Department of Transportation’s (MassDOT) contractor, MDR Construction Co., Inc. (MDR), will be installing a new 12-inch water main along Woburn Street (from Lowell Street, north to Perry Avenue) starting on Tuesday May 28th. This water main installation is related to construction of the Lowell Street and Woburn Street Intersection and Corridor Improvement Project. As a reminder, this Project received $5.46M in Federal and State funding through the State’s Transportation Improvement Program (TIP) and includes various phases for corridor widening, dedicated left turn lanes, utility/drainage improvements, new mast arms/signals, bicycle lanes, sidewalks, and crosswalks.

MassDOT’s contractor, MDR, has requested a full closure (for safety purposes) of this short section of Woburn Street (from the intersection of Lowell Street, north to Perry Ave) on weekdays from 7 am to 3 pm for potentially three (3) weeks (starting May 28th with an approximate end date of June 18th). Please see attached “TMP Detour Exhibit – Woburn St Closure” for illustrative reference of the road closure limits and detour route using Lowell Street and West Street. The roadway will be re-opened to traffic each night and on weekends.

Traffic delays are expected with implementation of this roadway closure and detour. We ask that everyone please obey the directives of police details, detour signage, and warning signage during this operation. Special conditions/accommodations related to traffic management during the roadway closure have been coordinated with the Department of Public Works, Wilmington Police Department, Wilmington School Department, and the adjoining commercial property owner. Separate notifications will be sent directly to residents within the limits of the road closure and immediate vicinity. That said, residents and businesses will have access to their properties throughout construction, although there may be short delays to accommodate worker and public safety.

Electronic copies of the plan are available in the Wilmington DPW Engineering Division Office located at 121 Glen Road (Wilmington Town Hall) and can be provided upon request by calling 978-658-4499.

If you have any questions or require additional information, please contact the Wilmington Engineering Division at 978-658-4499 or the Wilmington DPW administration office at 978-658-4481. You may also email questions to palunni@wilmingtonma.gov.
