Silver Lake To Receive Invasive Weed Control Treatment On May 28

Below is an announcement from the Wilmington DPW:

WILMINGTON, MA — Please be advised that the DPW’s Silver Lake biology consultant, Solitude Lake Management, has recently completed their annual spring survey of invasive weeds as Silver Lake. As chemical treatment was not necessary during 2022 and 2023, Solitude has recommended treatment in 2024 to help maintain the invasive weed management project’s ongoing 16-year success.

Treatment will occur on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 (weather permitting). Please refrain from using the lake water to irrigate ornamental plants for 3 days following treatment. It is also recommended that lake users refrain from swimming, fishing, and boating during the day of treatment, and water not be used for cooking or other consumption for 5 days.

Based on the success of treatment during previous years, it is anticipated that this year’s treatment will further control the species and greatly improve the chances of skipping treatment in 2025.

If you have any questions, or require additional information, please contact the Department of Public Works at 978-658-4481.
