Town Of Wilmington Once Again Earns A Tree City USA Designation From The Arbor Day Foundation

Below is an announcement from the Wilmington Department of Public Works:

WILMINGTON, MA — The Arbor Day Foundation has again recognized the Town of Wilmington as earning Tree City USA for calendar year 2023!

The Designation of Tree City helps recognize Wilmington for the many efforts and investments made by various departments in tree care, tree conservation, and urban forestry planning and is listed as an ongoing goal in the town’s Open Space and Recreation Plan.  The designation is made by the National Arbor Day Foundation in conjunction with the National Association of State Foresters and to date, there are over 3,400 cities and towns recognized as “Tree City USA”.

To be considered for Tree City USA, communities must meet four standards within a calendar year:

  • Standard 1: Community Must Have a Tree Board or Tree Department
  • Standard 2: Community Must Have a Tree Care Ordinance
  • Standard 3: A Community Forestry Program With Annual Budget of At Least $2 Per Capita
  • Standard 4: Arbor Day Observance and Proclamation
