LETTER: Why I Believe Rob Fasulo Is What Wilmington Needs

Greetings to All,

I have had the good fortune to grow up locally in North Reading and Wilmington.  Also the good fortune to raise my kids as a single, custodial father, here locally.  Many of you may know the challenges of a similar situation.  My son, his family, and my grandkids, while not in Wilmington, are in North Reading, and, experiencing the benefit of growing up in a supportive community.

The communities are changing, populations are increasing, roads are busier, and social pressures far greater.  Costs of living are increasing at a far greater rate than income.  This is a very unhealthy trajectory.

I have also had the good fortune to travel both domestically and internationally for work.  All over the US in states such as California, Texas, Louisiana, North and South Carolina, Utah, to name a few.  Internationally, China, Germany, United Kingdon, Mexico, Philippines, Canada, Belgium, Cayman Islands, and others, each on multiple occasions.  I stayed with the locals, worked with the locals.  I did get to know them and still today, remain in communication with most.

I have seen firsthand how economic and social pressures impact communities here in the US and internationally in the countries I spent time in.

I don’t believe we should rush to over build Wilmington or overspend to accomplish that.  I have personally witnessed the rise of despair that brings.  You personally may be able to pay for it, you personally may feel your family is benefiting, make no mistake, there is a growing number of people that are falling behind.  It would be unfortunate to wake up years from now, realizing what has happened and not be able to wind time back.

I have come to know Rob Fasulo as someone with a strong sense of business as well as a deep commitment to family and community. I believe he will bring a balanced approach to all families in Wilmington — not just the most fortunate, but especially to those whose voices are too often overlooked yet equally important to hear.
