OBITUARY: Frank H. McLean III, 70

Below is an obituary from Rick’s Funeral Service & Cremation LLC:

is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frank H. McLean III, age 70, of Greenville, SC, formerly of Wilmington and Methuen, MA, on April 2, 2026. Frank crossed over to the realm of Light peacefully, at home, surrounded by the love and care of his family, after a courageous battle with a lengthy illness.

Frank was born on June 15, 1955, in Winchester, Massachusetts, and grew up in Wilmington. He completed his education at Wilmington High School, graduating in 1973. He learned to ice skate on a nearby pond behind his childhood residence. This early experience sparked his enthusiasm for skating, eventually leading him to excel as a hockey player for the WHS team during high school. He continued playing hockey throughout his college years and beyond. His passion for the sport remained strong as he later shared it with his son, Eric, for many years. Even in his final moments, together they found joy in watching their beloved teams play —Go Team USA 2026 and the Boston Bruins!

After relocating to South Carolina from his long time home in New England, Frank married his devoted wife, Janice Marie McGinley. Together, they created a loving home in Greenville, SC, where Frank fell in love with the beauty of the city, particularly Falls Park and the breathtaking Blue Ridge Mountains. Their travels to Beaufort, where they had a second home, were filled with joy. Frank enjoyed the simple pleasures in life, a cold beer on a hot day and relaxed dinners with family that usually ended with a piece of chocolate cake.

Professionally, Frank excelled as a Construction Engineer. A self-taught expert, he designed roads, drainage systems, and essential infrastructure from concept to completion. His passion for working outdoors with heavy equipment allowed him to contribute to various projects, from residential housing developments to commercial ventures. In his later years, he focused on site work and CAD layouts for a grading company in Greenville.

Frank is survived by his beloved wife Janice (McGinley) McLean; his mother Evelyn Knight (McLean) Aloupis; his son Eric McLean; daughters Meghan McLean and Breanna (McLean) Farrell, with Justin; sisters Frances (McLean) Donovan, with Mark Roche and Janice (McLean) Moegelin; brother Brian McLean; grandchildren Ivy and Leo; and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his cherished stepfamily: Steven, Tristan, Jasmin, and Meagan. Frank was predeceased by his father, Frank H. McLean Jr.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date. In honor of Frank’s memory, we encourage everyone to cherish time with family, mend relationships with loved ones, take a friend out to dinner or simply savor a piece of chocolate. Above all, be kind to one another.
