OBITUARY: David Michael Hoffmann, 51

Below is an obituary from Schlossberg Chapel:

WILMINGTON, MA — It is with immeasurable sadness that we share with you, David Michael Hoffmann of Wilmington, MA, formerly of East Greenwich, RI, passed away on Saturday, March 21st at 51 years of age.

From an early age, David had a love of outdoors and music. During his childhood, he could be found riding his bike around the neighborhood or hanging out with his friends at local fishing holes. His ultimate outdoor adventure was climbing Machu Pichu, high in the Andes mountains of Peru. David’s musical interests were eclectic, spanning from Beethoven to Frank Zappa. In adulthood David was an avid reader, always learning more about the big questions of the universe.

David earned a business degree from Boston University, which he put to good use during his 20 year career as a Senior Finance Manager at the Broad Institute of Harvard and MIT. He took pride that he worked for a World Renowned research organization striving to improve human health.

A chance encounter at a snowy New Year’s Eve party did what no dating site could; matching somewhat opposites together. Almost 13 years of marriage produced Nikki, an incredible daughter who loved her arcade outings with her dad and sharing laughs over juvenile bodily functions.

David is survived by his beloved wife, Gwen (Garber) Hoffmann and was the loving father of Nicole “Nikki” Hoffmann. He was the devoted son of Peter & Ilene (Herson) Hoffmann and the older brother of Brian Hoffmann & his wife Jordana. David was the uncle of Gavin, Zoe and Carly Hoffmann as well as Eliana and Olivia Garber.

David could sometimes come across as quiet and reserved. However, he truly loved talking to and learning from new people and spending time with his close circle of old friends.

The family also asks that if you have any special memories or stories about David that can be memorialized for his daughter, you record or write them and share them with his wife at a later date.

Services to honor David’s life will be held at Schlossberg Family’s Chapel on the Hill, 824 Washington Street, Canton, on Friday March 27th at 1:PM.

In lieu of flowers the family requests donations in David’s memory be made to the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention, P.O. Box 2150, Westfield, MA 01086 www.afsp.org.
