LETTER: Wilmington School Committee Member David Ragsdale Endorses Jennifer Bryson For Re-Election

Dear Wilmington residents:

I am writing to encourage you to support Jenn Bryson’s reelection to the Wilmington School Committee on April 25. Her character, commitment, and professional work experience make her a superb school committee member.

Jenn was a school teacher in Chelsea for 10 years and knows firsthand what kids need in order to learn effectively and what teachers need in order to teach effectively. She brought that knowledge to her graduate work, earning a doctorate in education from Boston University and joining the faculty there. Now she prepares teachers for the classroom as the director of BU’s elementary education program, and is a recognized expert on literacy, presenting at conferences across the country.

But more important to me than her professional qualifications, impressive as they are, is her track record of leadership and accomplishment as a school committee member. Jenn has been deeply involved in all the school committee’s work, from policy to budget to collective bargaining to hiring a new superintendent. She led the committee skillfully for four years as chair and has served an additional three years as vice chair. She has been an indispensable part of every important discussion the school committee has had for 9 years.

I can also tell you what kind of colleague she is. The school committee is a group of seven people and it can’t operate effectively unless we all work together. The school department is also part of the Town and we need good relationships with the Select Board and Town Manager to do our work. Jenn is excellent at forging personal connections, getting people to work together toward common goals, and fostering trust. She is respected by town leaders, by teachers, by the superintendent, and by her colleagues on the school committee.

I encourage all Wilmington voters to join me in casting one of your School Committee votes for Jenn Bryson on April 25.

David Ragsdale

Member, Wilmington School Committee
