CANDIDATE ANNOUNCEMENT: Jennifer Bryson Announces Re-Election Campaign For School Committee

Dear Editor and Residents of Wilmington,

It is with enthusiasm that I write to announce my candidacy for re-election to the Wilmington School Committee. I have lived in Wilmington since 2005 and have served on the school committee since 2017, including in leadership roles as both Chair and Vice Chair. My two children, Hannah (a sophomore at Boston University) and Theo (a junior at Wilmington High School), both started at WPS in kindergarten so we know the Wilmington Public Schools experience from beginning to end. I am dedicated to strengthening education for all students and I am deeply invested in our community. My extensive experience on the School Committee is combined with over a decade of actively participating in, observing, and advocating for children in this district as a parent. I hope you will cast one of your votes for me on April 25, 2026.

I have devoted my entire career to teaching and learning, and ensuring that all children are receiving an exemplary education. I was a classroom teacher in Chelsea for ten years and now serve on the faculty at Boston University’s College of Education, where I prepare future elementary teachers, reading specialists, and research the importance of family/school partnerships. I supervise and coach teachers in all subject areas, but literacy is my primary focus. As a licensed literacy specialist and coach, I teach literacy courses and provide professional development to school districts in literacy curriculum and instruction. I also tutor children in reading and writing and work closely with teachers and families as we work to meet the needs of their child.

While my educational expertise will continue to guide me as a school committee member, my ultimate goal is to be a voice for parents and caregivers in the important educational decisions our community must make. I want to guarantee that all our classrooms have high quality teaching and strong curriculum, equitable learning environments, and most importantly, joyful and rigorous learning for our children. I am proud of the work we have completed in this district over the past 9 years. These accomplishments include stabilizing district leadership; creating and implementing a strategic plan; applying and being accepted into the MSBA program for a new Northside Elementary School; implementing universal screenings including early identification for dyslexia; strong financial management, and many other powerful initiatives. I’m running for one more term to accomplish a few important goals. First, having served as the chair of the superintendent search this past fall, I’d appreciate the opportunity to support the transition of our new superintendent, Matt Poska, into our district. The construction of the Northside Elementary School will be a major priority, and we will continue to invest in our West side schools as we work toward a long-term replacement. Finally, my advocacy work will include greater visibility and support for our growing multilingual student population and students with IEPs, 504s, and their families.

I hope to continue to represent you as the school committee addresses the town’s educational goals and needs. Please consider me for one of your school committee votes on April 25, 2026. I would be honored to continue serving on the Wilmington School Committee.
