CANDIDATE ANNOUNCEMENT: Michael Mercaldi Announces Re-Election Campaign For School Committee

To the Wilmington Community:

My name is Michael Mercaldi, and I am running for re‑election to the Wilmington School Committee. Thank you to everyone who previously supported me and gave me the privilege to serve. It has been an incredibly rewarding experience, and I’m proud of the progress we’ve made together to strengthen Wilmington Public Schools.

My wife, two girls (13 and 11) and I have called Wilmington our home since 2013. We have found Wilmington to be a wonderful place to raise a family because of its strong sense of community and smaller town feel within the Boston area. As an engineer working in the development and manufacturing of life‑changing medicines, I approach challenges with a problem‑solver’s mindset and a commitment to practical, effective solutions. Before joining the School Committee I was involved in the community through PAWS and as a coach for Wilmington Youth Soccer. Giving back to the community is a core value for me.

Key accomplishments from my first term include:

— Championing the approval of the new Northside Elementary School
— Helping shape a Strategic Vision that expands career pathway education
— Improving bus service reliability
— Ensuring fiscal responsibility with balanced, reasonable budget increases
— Expanding community engagement with the School Committee

As we welcome a new Superintendent, continuity on the Committee is more important than ever. In my next term, I will focus on:

– A Seamless Superintendent Transition: Ensuring he has the support and resources needed to excel
– Elevating Academic Excellence: Advocating for strong curriculum improvements and student learning supports
– Opening of the New NorthSide Elementary School: Providing our youngest learners with a vibrant, modern school environment
– Strengthening Community Ties: Promoting open, two‑way communication so residents have a meaningful voice in our schools’ future
