TEWKSBURY, MA — Raymond E. Cobleigh, age 94, a longtime resident of Tewksbury and member of the First Baptist Church, passed away at his home in the care of his family and hospice on Tuesday, March 3, 2026.
He was the beloved husband of Jane “Janie” K. (Kent) Cobleigh with whom he would have celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary on August 4, 2026.
Born in Tyngsborough on May 30, 1931, he was the middle child of thirteen children, the son of the late Anna (Burton) Cobleigh.
Ray attended Tyngsborough public schools and graduated from Lowell High School in 1949. He later attended Huntington Prep in Boston and graduated from Lowell Tech (U. Mass-Lowell) in 1959.
On November 2, 1949, Ray enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He was awarded several decorations for his active-duty service including the Korean Service Medal with three stars, the United Nations Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps on February 27, 1953.
Following his military service, Ray was employed as a mechanical engineer by the Raytheon Corporation, where he worked for 36 years.
In the early 1960’s, Ray and his father-in-law, Charles F. Kent, constructed and developed Cobleigh Drive in North Tewksbury.
During his retirement, Ray worked for his sister Elsie Wyman at Wyman’s Beach in Westford for a few years.
He was a member of the Wamesit Masonic Lodge A.F.& A.M. as well as the Temple Aleppo Shriners in Wilmington.
Ray loved watching his two grandsons play AAU and College Baseball. In addition, he loved traveling, including camping at Wabanaki Campground in Ossipee, NH for the past 40 years, annual trips to Aruba for the past 37 years as well as trips to Alaska, Hawaii and the Panama Canal.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Kim Ellen Bowen and her husband George, of Chelmsford and Joy Cobleigh Wallace and her husband Ron, of Tewksbury: four grandchildren, Danny Bowen and his wife Shannon, Heather Ranagan and her husband Patrick, Ronnie Wallace and his wife Kelsey and Robbie Wallace: five great grandchildren, Owen, Lucy and Maggie Ranagan, Leigh Bowen, and Logan Wallace: Ray was the brother of late Frank Cobleigh (Rita), Gladys Anderson (Dale), Dorothy Hutchinson (Joe), Muriel Gilpatrick (Gilly), Maurice Cobleigh (Pauline), James Cobleigh (Shirley), Russell Cobleigh (Marion), Gerald Cobleigh (Eleanor), surviving sister, Janice Taylor ( the late Dick), and the late Elsie Wyman (Pete), Robert Cobleigh (Linda), David Cobleigh surviving wife (Pat) and his sisters-in-law Charlotte Sargent and Evelyn Kent. He leaves many nieces, nephews and extended family members including the family of Deborah and Thomas Sullivan.
Calling hours are Friday, March 6, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Farmer & Dee Funeral Home, 16 Lee Street, Tewksbury. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 7, at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church, 1500 Andover Street, Route 133, Tewksbury. Those attending are asked to Please Meet at Church. Services will conclude with interment at Tewksbury Cemetery, 172 East Street, Tewksbury. At the request of his family, please OMIT Flowers.
