WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington School Committee meets this Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at 6pm in the Large Instruction Room at Wilmington High School.
There are some noteworthy items on Wednesday night’s agenda, including:
— The School Committee will consider transferring the Wildwood School Building and Arts Center to the Town, and asking the Town Manager to fund the demolition of the Roman House in the FY27 capital budget, which will be voted on at the 2026 Annual Town Meeting.
The suggested motion on the Roman House reads as followed: “I move that the building known as the Roman House, located at 161 Church Street, having become dilapidated and unsuitable for use by the School Department, and in need of costly renovation to be safely used for any purpose and to meet applicable safety and building codes, said building not being subject to any deed, conservation, or preservation restriction, be deemed not needed for school use and subject to demolition. I further move that the School Committee request that the Town Manager include in the Town budget for Fiscal Year 2027 such funds as are necessary and appropriate for the demolition of the Roman House, the removal of any demolition debris, and the restoration of the building site in the interest of public health and safety, said property site to remain under the care, custody, management, and control of the School Committee.”
— The School Committee will approve the school district’s 2026-2027 calendar (or possibly wait until the following meeting).
— Superintendent Thomson will provide his meeting report, including updates on the proposed Steve Scanlon Memorial; a staffing increase of one ESL position; and the retirement announcement of the Coordination of Special Education.
— The School Committee will receive an update on the North Principal search.
— The district’s Cell Phone Working Group will share its recommendations with the School Committee.
— The School Committee will consider approving field trips to Portugal (April 2027) and Italy (April 2027), as well as the DECA Competition in Atlanta, Georgia (April 2026).
