Wilmington Troop 56 Earns Second Place Overall, 7 Top Finishes At West Wind Klondike Derby

WILMINGTON, MA — Scouting America Troop 56, Wilmington competed in the 2026 West Wind Klondike Derby on Saturday, February 7, 2026, held at Centralville Sportsmen’s Club in Dracut.

The Klondike derby is made up of stations where patrols demonstrate their leadership, spirit, and Scoutcraft skills, earning points towards a total score. Scouts slept in tents outside in 19º weather and pulled a dogsled containing their gear between stations as it snowed. Over 200 scouts from the West Wind District participated in this long standing scout tradition.

Troop 56 competed in 10 events and placed in 7, earning:

First Place: Log Sawing Challenge

Second Place: Orienteering

Third Place: Ski Biathlon

Fourth Place: Knots & Lashing

Fourth Place: Soup Kitchen

Fourth Place: Slingshot

Fifth Place: Snowshoe/Sled Lift

The troop earned second place overall, which is notable with it being their first year participating in the West Wind Klondike Derby.
