Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:
WILMINGTON, MA — Carolyn F. (May) McEvoy, 93, formerly a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away on January 28, 2026, surrounded by her family.
Born on March 22, 1932, in Boston, Carolyn was the cherished daughter of the late Bernard J. and Isabel (Paul) May. She was raised and educated in Somerville, where her love of learning and people first took place. After graduating from high school, she attended Boston University, earning a bachelor’s degree in teaching; a profession that would shape much of her life.
In the early 1960s, Carolyn married the love of her life, Robert McEvoy, Jr., lovingly known as “Bob.” Together they made their home in Hathaway Acres in Wilmington, where they raised their children and built a life centered on family and kindness. Carolyn was a loving and proud mother, and her children were always at the heart of everything she did.
Carolyn began her teaching career in the city before later teaching in Wilmington. She found great joy in the classroom and formed lasting connections with her students and fellow teachers, who admired her warmth, patience, and dedication.
Beyond her family and career, Carolyn had a true passion for music, especially opera. She eagerly boarded the Red Eye train to Boston or New York City to attend countless opera productions over the years. Travel was another joy in her life, and she treasured the experiences and memories it brought her.
Carolyn will be remembered for her gentle spirit, her love of learning and music, and, above all, her unwavering devotion to her family. She leaves behind a legacy of love that will be carried on by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Carolyn was the beloved wife of the late Robert McEvoy, Jr.; devoted mother of the late David McEvoy, Douglas McEvoy of Malden, Susan Hutchins of Newfield, NH, Steven McEvoy of Manchester, NH, Sarah O’Brien and Laura McGrail, both of Salem, NH; and the loving and proud “Grandma” to Shannon, Tommy, Ryan, Rachel, Julie, Joey, Erin, Emily, and David, dear sister of the late Brenda Monaco. Carolyn is survived by her service dog, Benton, who has been a devoted companion and friend.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a graveside service at Wildwood Cemetery, 233 Middlesex Avenue, Wilmington, on Friday, February 6th, at 11:00 a.m.
