OBITUARY: Elaine (Fox) Piven, 89

Below is an obituary from Goldman Funeral Chapel:

TEWKSBURY, MA — Elaine (Fox) Piven, of Tewksbury, passed away on January 20, 2026, just a week after the passing of her beloved husband of 68 years, Ed. Elaine is survived by her daughter Robyn Hakala and her husband Matt of Tewksbury, granddaughter Morgan Horan and her husband Chris of Dunstable, and daughter-in-law Sandy of Haverhill. Elaine was the devoted mother of the late Mark Piven. She was also excitedly awaiting the birth of her first great-grandchild this spring.

Elaine grew up in Malden with her parents and sister, Irma, who she was very close to. She enjoyed spending summers in what she fondly referred to as “the country” (aka Wilmington, MA) where she spent time swimming in the mudhole and visiting with family and friends. After raising her family in Malden, Elaine moved to Tewksbury, where she lived for over 20 years, to be closer to her daughter, son-in-law, and granddaughter. One of her favorite things to do was spending time with her granddaughter who she picked up after school from the bus stop when she was young. She later taught her how to play card games like blackjack and was always spending time with her at the pool.

Elaine was a thoughtful friend and family member who never missed sending a card for any occasion whether it was a birthday, anniversary, or even Halloween. She was known for her sweet tooth which she always indulged in. She loved to read, travel to warmer places like Aruba, and especially spend time with her husband, Ed. They had their nightly routine of playing card games and watching television together. Even when she was getting older and not feeling as energetic, Elaine would take a nap after dinner to be able to wake up in time to watch their favorite shows. Elaine was loved by many and will be sorely missed by all who knew her.

Services will be held at Goldman Funeral Chapel, 174 Ferry Street (off Route 60), Malden, on Thursday, January 22 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Agudas Achim Cemetery in Melrose. Condolence calls may be made at the home of Robyn & Matt Hakala on Thursday, January 22, 4-8 pm and Friday, January 23, 12-5 pm. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to M.S.P.C.A./Angell 350 Huntington Ave Boston, MA 02130 or to the American Heart Association.
