OBITUARY: Doris Morrissey, 89

WILMINGTON, MA — Doris Morrissey, 89, of Merrimack, NH passed away peacefully at home on December 30th, 2025.

She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on May 13, 1936, to the late Stella (Stowe) Burrows and Helmer Fisher. Doris was raised in Wilmington, Massachusetts, where she later pursued her calling in nursing. She earned her LPN from the Tewksbury State Hospital Nursing School and devoted more than 20 years of service as a nurse at Tewksbury State Hospital before retiring in 1993. After moving to Merrimack, New Hampshire in 1997, Doris worked in the Superintendent of School’s office part time and enjoyed being part of the local community.

Doris was an active member of Wilmington Methodist Church where she loved singing in the choir. She not only had a beautiful voice but was also a wonderful dancer and, together with her husband, was a member of the Wilmington Dance Club for many years. Above all else, Doris cherished time spent with her family, particularly her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who were the light of her life.

In addition to her parents, Doris is predeceased by her sisters Gwen Eithier and Karen Parker, and her brothers Robert Rodman, Philip, Douglas and John Fisher.

Doris is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, James Morrissey; her three sons, Philip Morrissey and his wife Vicki, Paul Morrissey and his wife Katherine, Mark Morrissey and his wife Cynthia, and daughter Christine Ewing and her husband Wade; her seven grandchildren, Chad Morrissey and his wife Amanda, Colin Morrissey, Andrew Morrissey, Julie Stillman and her husband Craig, Ross Ewing and his wife Josie, Benjamin Ewing, and Bradley Ewing; her four great-grandchildren, McKenna and Luca Morrissey, George Ewing, and Jace Stillman; and her sister, Violet Baker and brother, Donald Fisher.

A funeral service will be held at the Nichols Funeral Home located at 187 Middlesex Ave in Wilmington, MA on Friday January 9th, 2026, at 12:00 PM with a burial to follow at the Wildwood Cemetery also located in Wilmington.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Doris’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (https://www.alz.org/).
