OBITUARY: Steven Eugene Merry, 72

WILMINGTON, MA — Steven Eugene Merry, 72, a longtime resident of Wilmington, peacefully passed away on Friday, December 26, 2025, at Clinton Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. Born on March 3, 1953, he was the son of the late Lowell Merry and Mary Lee (Henry) Pompeii.

Steve was raised in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, alongside his siblings, forming the close family bonds that would remain central throughout his life. After graduating from high school, he proudly served in the United States Air Force. Steve was a hard worker and built a long, accomplished career as an electrical engineer. He contributed his skills to several respected companies, including GE, PGI, and Kopin. Steve was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, and he loved spending time with his family more than anything.

Steve was best known by many as an avid martial artist, beginning his practice of Shorin-Ryu karate with his two children in 1991. He continued his official study for 2 more decades and remained involved in the discipline the rest of his life. Steve earned the rank of Godan (fifth degree black belt), and his true passion and gift was as Renshi (“polished instructor”), a title he earned by sharing his knowledge with students of all ages. He was also talented guitarist and drummer.

Steve will be dearly missed, and is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Imelda (Quill) Merry; his loving daughter Denise Merry and her fiancé, Daniel Kelly, of Manchester by the Sea; and his devoted son David Merry and husband, Richard Stazinski, and cherished grandchildren Shannon and Benjamin, of Jamaica Plain. He is also survived by his siblings: Paul Merry and his wife, Debbie; Peter Merry and his wife, Sandy; and Diana Bombardier and her husband, Jody; along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and their families.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Friday, January 2, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129) Lynn. A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2026 at 11:00 AM at Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway, (rt. 129), Lynn. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Lynn.
