Below is an announcement from the latest Town Topics newsletter:
WILMINGTON, MA — January is File of Life Month at the Wilmington Senior Center.
What Is A File Of Life? The File of Life is an informational packet that residents keep on their refrigerators and a smaller version for when they go out. The packet is highly visible to first responders and contains the person’s medical information in the event of an emergency.
Why Should I Have A File Of Life? Keeping a File of Life with you enables emergency medical personnel to better understand your medical history, providing you with a better level of care. Medical emergencies can be frightening, and you may forget to tell an EMT something pertinent to your medical history. At other times, you may be unable to speak for yourself. The File of Life can ensure that medical personnel will have the information they need to better assist you and therefore enable doctors to better treat you.
Thanks to the Wilmington Fire Department’s Community Safety Grant, the File of Life packets are free.
On Friday, January 9, 2026, the Senior Center will pass out the File of Life packets and assist everyone in filling out the forms. Also feel free to drop by the center anytime to receive one for your elderly family members, neighbors and/or friends.
If anyone should have questions, please feel free to call Department of Elderly Services at 978-657-7595 or 978-658-2258.
This program is a partnership between The Wilmington Department of Elderly Services, Wilmington Fire Department, and the Wilmington Police Department.
