OBITUARY: William “Bill” Savosik, 89

Below is an obituary from Nichols Funeral Home:

WILMINGTON, MA — William Savosik, affectionately known as “Bill,” age 89, of Wilmington, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on December 29, 2025.

Bill was born on August 23, 1936, in Everett, MA, the cherished son of the late John and Martha (Levinska) Savosik. He was raised in Chelsea and graduated from Chelsea High School before continuing his studies at Northeastern University, where he earned his bachelor’s degree.

A proud patriot, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 26, 1961. He faithfully served his country during the Vietnam era and was honorably discharged on May 25, 1964. His service reflected his lifelong dedication, loyalty, and sense of duty.

On October 1, 1963, Bill married the love of his life, Dianne L. (Smith) Savosik. The couple moved to Wilmington in 1973, where they built a loving home and raised their three children, Marc, Bryan, and Jenifer.

Bill and his beloved wife, Dianne, made Wilmington their home, and from the moment they arrived, Bill became deeply involved in the life of the town. He believed in showing up and giving back, especially when it came to children and families. Whether it was Little League, hockey, or any extracurricular activity his children participated in, Bill was there—often not just as a supporter, but as a board member and volunteer.

Bill was also proud to be involved in many organizations, most notably the Elks. A dedicated and passionate member, he was elected Exalted Ruler multiple times at two different lodges and served as secretary for many years. Bill truly embraced the meaning of the Elks organization—giving, service, and brotherhood—and lived those values every day. He was, in every sense, a true Elk.

His love for Wilmington extended throughout the community. Bill was an active member of the Recreation Department and an original member of the Wilmington Fourth of July Committee. Each year, he could be found setting up the tent on the Town Common, making sure the porta-potties were stocked, and manning the gate at the handicap parking lot. One of his greatest joys was “holding court” at that gate—shaking hands, greeting old friends, and warmly welcoming neighbors he hadn’t seen since the previous summer.

Family was everything to Bill. He treasured every opportunity to gather, no matter the occasion, and holidays were always especially meaningful to him. He adored his grandchildren and made it a point to attend every concert, every recital, and every important moment. He never missed a birthday—cards arrived like clockwork, followed by an early morning phone call where he would joyfully sing “Happy Birthday” in his unmistakable Frank Sinatra-style voice.

Bill was a true gentleman—kind, attentive, and genuinely interested in others. He loved listening to people’s stories, learning something new, and sharing his own experiences. His warmth, generosity, and presence left a lasting impression on all who knew him. Men like Bill are rare, and he will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the entire Wilmington community.

Bill was the beloved husband of the late Dianne L. Savosik, devoted father of Marc Savosik and his wife Dianna of Wilmington, Bryan Savosik of Mansfield, and Jenifer Savosik and her companion Tom Ogden of Tewksbury. He was the loving “Dumpa”/“Papa” of Richard Hersom Jr. and his wife Ashley of Hudson, NH, Kayla Slavin of Stoneham, and Alyssa Slavin of Wilmington. Bill was the dear brother of Peter Savosik and his late wife Peggy of Peyton, CO, the late Dennis Savosik and his wife Kathy of Wilmington, and the late Dorothy Ebert and her husband George of Wilmington. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Bill held a special place in his heart for his late pup, Snickers.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington, MA, on Monday, January 5th at 9:30 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Thomas Church, 126 Middlesex Ave., Wilmington, MA, at 10:30 a.m. Visiting Hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Sunday, January 4th, from 4:00–7:00 p.m.

Memorial donations in Bill’s name may be made to the Joslin Diabetes Center, 529 Main St., 4th Floor, Charlestown, MA 02129.
