OBITUARY: Kathleen “Katie-O” Carbone, 70

NORTH READING, MA — Kathleen “Katie-O” Carbone,  70, of North Reading and formerly of Melrose, passed away on Monday, December 15, 2025 at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington after a lenghty illness.

Born in Everett, MA on December 18, 1954, she was the daughter of the late Thomas “Buppa” O’Dea and Susan “Gunny” O’Dea. Katie-O moved to North Reading in 1961. She was raised and attended school in North Reading and was a graduate of North Reading High School, Class of 1972.

She worked as a cashier for many years, she was known as North Reading’s “Lottery Girl” and for taking care of her “Jabone.”

Katie-O was beyond special in so many ways, her profound love for her boys “Bona and Bone”. She was the greatest mom ever. The way Katie-O loved and adored her best friend and love of her life Jabone. Katie-O and Jabone had a pure and true love. The apple of Katies eyes was her granddaughter Lylah-Rose. Lylah brought her much love and passion. Katie had a true gift of love, her family and friends were so dear to her heart.

She had a passion for horses as a child. She was very passionate about attending and cheering on Lylah at her soccer games and tournaments.

Katie-O shared love and kindness to everyone she met, Jabone always said, she gave the best hugs.

She always loved to watch the Red Sox and Patriots, laying by the pool, sun bathing, and music and dancing gave her joy. Grease Lightening was a favorite, second to Jabone’s music. Katie always put everyone before herself, right to her last breath.

Family members include her loving husband, Stephen “Jabone” Carbone; her son, Phillip “Phil” Carbone, a.k.a. “Bona” and her late son, Thomas “Bone” Carbone; her four legged son, Dexter; brothers, Tom O’Dea and Tim O’Dea; sisters, Chris Gray and the late Sue Gallant; her granddaughter, Lylah Rose Carbone; cherished by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and a loving Godmother. Very loved by many family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 18 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Croswell Funeral Home, 19 Bow Street, North Reading. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made in her memory to the American Cancer Society. A Celebration of Life will be held for her at a later date.
