WILMINGTON, MA — At the Wilmington School Committee Meeting on December 3, 2025, Interim Superintendent David Thomson announced that he has selected WHS senior Will Poyant as Wilmington’s recipient of the Massachusetts Association of School Superintendents Certificate of Academic Excellence.
Will Poyant has made significant contributions to the WHS community and the town of Wilmington throughout his high school career. He is an exceptional student who has pursued a rigorous program of study consisting of Honors and Advanced Placement courses while maintaining an impressive 4.23 GPA through his junior year. His teachers recognized his dedication and hard work, honoring him as one of the top students in mathematics and consumer sciences last spring. Will is actively involved in the athletic community at WHS, playing on three varsity teams and serving as the Captain for both the JV & Varsity basketball teams. His passion for sports is evident in his commitment to giving back to the youth in his community; Will coaches flag football and referees for the recreational basketball program. He enjoys being able to teach the younger players the rules of a game he has loved since childhood and shares his baseball skills by assisting at clinics for a local club team.
In addition to making an impact through sports, Will is a thoughtful young man who has volunteered his time to help at his church and assist elderly neighbors with tasks they were no longer able to complete on their own. He is also involved in WHS’s Local Heroes club, a cause close to his heart as there are many veterans in his family. Somehow, Will also manages to find time to work two jobs on top of all these commitments! He is a young man with an outstanding work ethic, impeccable morals, and unlimited potential for future success.
