Below is a press release from the Wilmington Police Department:
WILMINGTON, MA — Middlesex Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian and Wilmington Police Chief Brian Pupa have announced the recent completion of interactive, scenario-based training for members of the town’s police department.
The training was completed during the week of November 17 in Wilmington utilizing the MSO’s Mobile Training Center (MTC). 43 Wilmington officers participated over the course of five days.
During the training, officers were put through a series of video-based scenarios that replicated situations they may encounter on the job. This included traffic stops, trespassing, and active shooter scenarios.
“Our Mobile Training Center is about bringing modern, innovative tools directly to our local partners. Our team prepares specific scenarios based on what each department wants to work on each training period,” said Sheriff Koutoujian. “We’re grateful to Chief Pupa and his team for their continued collaboration and proud to partner with them on this training.”
“On behalf of the Wilmington Police Department, I want to thank Sheriff Koutoujian and the Middlesex Sheriff’s Office for bringing this training to our officers,” said Chief Pupa. “This program puts our people in real-life situations where they are forced to make split-second decisions, just as they would on the street. At the same time, it gives them the opportunity to put their de-escalation skills to work and potentially change the course of a scenario that might otherwise turn lethal. This is the kind of training that makes officers better, safer, and more prepared to serve our community.”
